Silver is a soft, malleable material, highly prized by designers for its purity and quality. It is a precious metal, shiny, the whitest of all metals. In order to identify a precious metal, the customs authorities affix a guarantee stamp to guarantee which metal it is. This stamp is mandatory on all jewellery weighing 30 grams or more. This is why it is rare to find silver jewellery with a guarantee mark.<\/p>\n

In order to recognise that the metal is sterling silver, a touchstone and acid test must be carried out. The aim is that the trace generated does not disappear after the inspection. If the trace disappears, it is not sterling silver.<\/p>\n

We can also see the quality of silver by long-term inspection: oxidation.<\/p>\n

If the jewellery does not oxidise over time, it is either not sterling silver or there is something covering the surface of the sterling silver.<\/p>\n

Other types of silver exist, for example:<\/p>\n

– 999 silver which is “pure” silver, used in the alloying of sterling silver.<\/p>\n

– 800 silver which contains 80% pure silver and 20% copper.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

To avoid oxidation, do not leave the jewellery in contact with water and remove it whenever you use chemicals.<\/p>\n
